Identity Crisis

Don Surber points to an old favorite bit of blog fun that tells you whether a blog is written by a man or a woman and once again, I am dismayed:

We think http://primordialslack.blogspot.com is written by a man (87%).

Sigh.

A bit more sophisticated fun comes to us via the estimable Neptunus Lex. The Typealyzer does a Myers-Briggs type of analysis along with a brain-pan chart: ISTP:

"Mechanics." I know. I was surprised to see that much bain activity, too.

Just for fun, I typed in the urls of most of the Blown-Eyed Blodgers in both tests. Pretty interesting spectrum of crazy right there. And Rob Smith? God rest your soul, dear man, but yours was certainly the most unique.

Another quick quiz is here, to tell you if you're Left or Right Brain Dominant. Mine came up as Left Brain, 11 to 7, which would be okay if it would just tell me where I left it.

It's enough to make me doubt myself in a serious way. I remember at one job, I had a very nice but totally talkative and innervating coworker. She was one of those who asks you five questions while you're attempting to answer the first one. Exasperation got the better of me and I scolded her with a, "dammit, woman, let me finish one thought before you start in with five more!"

I mean, I can throw out ideas as fast and furious as a pitching machine, but I can't think of ten questions I want to ask most people in a lifetime, much less in one coffee break. How could she keep peppering me? I simply am NOT that fascinating. Not in this blog, anyway!

So how about it? Ya'll go play and see what you find out. Report back.

I'm interested. No, really.

Don't feel too bad, Joan - mine came up 78% male.

The typealyzer was way off, too - the last time I properly did one of those personality tests I came up as INXP. This one rates me as ESFJ. Me? Social?? Bwaaahaha.

I don't know about the hemispheric test - too many of my answers would be "depends on the circumstances." As it is, I could flip a coin and come up with an adequate approximation on most of those.

Thanks for helping me procrastinate!

pamibe came up 76% male. What is their criteria?

I think you have to post a recipe or a knitting chart to be considered female. I swear, I'm gonna start posting nothing but pics of Daniel Craig and Hugh Jackman.

Gender Analyzer says 82% MAN, baybee. I'm not surprised, I've always had more balls than most men I've known. Mister Liberty Girl is a HUGE exception, obv.

Typealizer says I'm ENFP. "Enjoy other people"??? Feh.

Aaand, I'm a left-brainer. No surprise there.

Mine was 81% man. I guess Liberty Girl is more of a man than I am?

Damn. I'm not sure what to think of that.

I'm an ISTP with higher thinking than sensing, and almost no feelings. My kids would agree with the site there. No feelings at all. :)

And I am 14-4 right brained. No way. I'm creative. Who would have thought.

And I'm more of a man than Liberty Girl. Heh.

:o)

Clearly all your talk about pirates made the difference. Hmph.

I came up 84% male. I knew I should have done that how-to on putting a 350 small block in your lawn tractor.

I'm not sure that will work. Their AI is making the same mistake that a friend of mine made.

Down in Dallas, I used to work with the cutest little SMU bowhead who happened to have a masters in statistics. One day she was telling me about all the lesbians that lived in her neighborhood. She said, "And they all drive those little compact pickup trucks. Every time I see one of those, I think it's a lesbian driving." She paused for a minute, then added, "Except that my dad drives one of those, too."

I said, "That makes sense. People who drive little pickups like women."

The jungle is INTP -- The Thinkers.

Check out the last sentence. They haven't just read my blog, they've been to my house.

The logical and analytical type. They are especialy attuned to difficult creative and intellectual challenges and always look for something more complex to dig into. They are great at finding subtle connections between things and imagine far-reaching implications.

They enjoy working with complex things using a lot of concepts and imaginative models of reality. Since they are not very good at seeing and understanding the needs of other people, they might come across as arrogant, impatient and insensitive to people that need some time to understand what they are talking about.

I was 67% man. I hope the 33% female I obviously am includes a sweet little butterbean. I'd sometimes like something a little different to play with at night.

P.S. My Typealyzer?

ISFP - The Artists

The gentle and compassionate type.

Ha! I told you I was a sensitive boy!

It's ok. One of my other favorite blog haunts, Baldilocks' blog, came up male as well. She's a she. Stereotypes exist for a reason, but most interesting people aren't neatly pigeonholed.

Robin Starfish said...

WTF? Robin Starfish is 69% female? Does that make me a male lesbian?

There's probably a new tax break for that coming up, so I'm ok with it.

Typealyzer = ESTP - a doer. Active, playful, can't sit still. Whatever - I would describe it better as 'gets bored quickly'. Brain activity skewed to the lower left. Huh.

But the dominant test is 16 to 2 Right Brain, or 'barking mad'.

Sooo then...I have a brain cloud. I knew it... Well, I didn't know it, but I knew it.

Joan of Argghh! said...

'shroom, you really know how to make me worry even more. kthnx.

Vman, "butterbean"? Oh just... oh merciful heavens...

Also, your latest post full of poetic alliteration skewed the result because when I did your blog earlier, it came up "Mechanics" same as mine. So maybe not so sensitive, y'know?

Robin, a brain cloud! Yes! Take a picture of it. Do you realize what a free pass that is? Anything is possible. I'm jealous.

... evidently I'm "a feeler".....

All hail the Joe vs. the Volcano quote. Bow down.

Oh, that's why that sounded familiar. Nice reminder that it would be fine to see that flick again. Thanks, LG.

The first test was 80 percent sure I was a man. The typealyzer had me as an ISTP, which is interesting because I've taken the Meyers-Briggs test and come out as an ENFP. The brain dominance test has me as a right-brained type (15 to 3, which I also know to be true, despite the fact that my work is all left brain stuff. Maybe it was the stroke...

PeggyU said...

Ok. I know I should not go here, but ... what's a butterbean? I mean, besides a legume?

Velociman said...

Peggy,

Think "the little man in the boat"...

Hope that helps.

Joan of Argghh! said...

Vman, that was positively gallant.

PeggyU said...

I was trying to make you blush, Velociman ... can't tell if it worked or not. She's right, it was gentlemanly!

Jean said...

A blushing Velociman?
I seriously doubt that has ever or will happen.
