It's the 30th of the month. Must be payday for somebody in this town, but the Mall has been empty, the food court deserted for the last three days. Seriously deserted. Zombie-like.

Where are all the people?
The weather's too nice to be indoors.
Everybody's scared shitless. By everything.
Obama's tax credit must not be all that.
Nobody has a job.
The Chick Fil A guy looks feverish; bird flu?
I dunno, but I want the Segway the Mall Cop is riding.

Haven't you heard? Joey B says we're all gonna die if we leave our houses.

I'd rather have the flu than be stuck inside my house.

I voted for the Chick Fil A guy looking feverish.

Pork chops for dinner!

Well then. I guess the only folks out and about are Republicans. And they're all at work, not the mall!

My guess is Costco. They're all stocking up for the impending panic and quarantine.

They're not at the Volusia Mall, I can tell you that!

Everyone around here is tweaking. Our company sent out a notice yesterday informing all employees of CDC recomendations regarding the swine flu. This included: "Stay home when you are sick. If you experience influenza-like-illness symptoms (fever with either a cough or sore throat), you are strongly encouraged to stay home for 7 days after the onset of the symptoms or at least 24 hours after symptoms have resolved, whichever is longer. If you experience influenza-like-illness symptoms while at work, you should leave work immediately and go home."

I checked, and we will need a doctor's note for any absence longer than two days. Also, we will be allowed to log into the system from home during such a period in order to keep-up on work.

And as far as Obama's tax credit goes, it turns out that it really isn't all that. Many people may need to pay back a portion of that tax credit.
